Superstorm New York: What Really Happened

Epic flooding, millions without power, numerous fatalities, gridlock and heartbreak; go inside the megastorm to learn why it happened and how one could hit again. Superstorm New York: What Really Happened is an in-depth one-hour special for National Geographic US on the wrath and destruction of Hurricane Sandy. In its mammoth and merciless wake, this superstorm caused more than 110 fatalities in the U.S., and paralysed life for millions of people in more than a half-dozen states. Thousands of people [...]

  • Rocket Men

This was a pilot for an ob-doc series for Discovery Channel US. It focuses on the private space exploration companies competing for the ‘X-Prize’, a multi-million dollar competition to privately develop and launch a space craft into orbit and beyond.

  • London’s Alive

This was a pretty interesting project. This was also the first ‘professional’ project that I directed as well as edited. This was a promotional film for Visit London, and we teamed up with Urban Freeflow (awesome Parkour crew, as seen on Top Gear etc) to dress them up as iconic London figures and get them to do their free running in and around London. This was great fun to shoot (I did a load of camerawork on this as well) [...]

  • Viral vs Viral

This was a pilot for a game show pitting two bands against each other to make a viral music video in just 48 hours. The final show was 30′, but to save time this is the teaser trailer, which should give you more than just an idea of how the show worked stylistically.

  • Virgin Red Room

This was a show I edited and directed called ‘Virgin Red Room’. It is basically a presenter led music show with interviews and performances. This is a cut down to give you an idea of what the show is like. All editing, colour correction and camera work was done by myself.

  • Visit London Awards

This is one of the idents I cut for the Visit London Awards. I guess the main reason they are interesting is because I was briefed to ‘rip-off’ the look of X-Factor. Judge for yourself how well I did! p.s. You may well recognise the voice over guy as well!

    Fashion Vs Sport

This is one of the pieces from the ‘What’s On’, a show I cut for London TV. This one is all about the Fashion Vs Sport exhibition at the V&A Museum. Not much else I can really say about it to be honest! For the geeks amongst you, I did all the on-line and on-line on an Avid Adrenaline, and it was shot on DVCPRO.

  • Tested

    Tested

This is a little bit form the test shoot for Tested (a feature film I am cutting). It was shot on the RED one and cut on FCP (I handled all the post except the grade). It is only a test shoot, so obviously we did not bother with GV’s and establishing shots, but the scenes them selves play out pretty well, and I think the show just what a good writer/director Ben Cookson is (one of the reasons I [...]

    Free Running (Sort of)

By rights, this has no business being on my showreel site, but I did it and rediscovered it looking for something else the other day. It made me laugh so I thought I would stick it on here! It started off as a test shoot for a new camera we were using at London TV for a shoot I was going to cut the following week. We left the office at 2pm, grabbing a mate who wasn’t doing much (it [...]

  • Patrol Men

    Patrol Men

This is the trailer for the first feature film I have had released (there are more to follow!!!) Admittedly, it is a bit of a low budget affair, but it has got some pretty decent reviews, it has had its US premier at the Underground Horror film festival, and the DVD sales have been strong in the UK. Strong enough in fact that the film is now getting a US release which is pretty cool. As well as cutting the [...]

  • Mirrorkicks – “Anything”

    Mirrorkicks – “Anything”

This was a neat little music video I cut for Mirrorkicks. Most of the video was filmed backwards and at varying speeds (and a total nightmare to sync up as a result!) but it did mean we got this amazing ‘hand cranked’ footage effect – just what we wanted. The video is pretty eerie, and the use of ipods is pretty clever (again an absolute nightmare to sync up since the iPods/iPhones run at 30fps and we were shooting at [...]

  • The Listening Post

    The Listening Post

This is another program I am currently working on for Al Jazeera. It’s an interesting job cutting rapid turn around news and current affairs instead of long form docs and films, and certainly a nice break from the norm. I am doing a mixture of on-line and off-line for each show (which is good practice for my on-lining skills), but obviously is much more fun cutting the actual stories (often against super tight dead lines) In a few weeks they [...]

    Hatcham Social – ”Sidewalk”

This is a music video I cut for Hatcham Social. The idea was to create a piece that looks like it was shot in one take. Now I hate to ruin the illusion, but it was about 20 takes stitched together!!!! So how does it still look like one take??? Well that would be telling, but part of it is that I am very good at what I do! The other part is a secret (but I am sure if [...]

  • Peter Pan

    Peter Pan

This was a film I cut for London TV, and presented by Dan Snow, about the Peter Pan live show taking place in Kensington Gardens. Not sure what else to say about this one to be honest! It did involve a lot of liaising with a graphics guy to get all the effects put together on time, but I think the end result was pretty good.

  • And The Beat Goes On

    And The Beat Goes On

This is a feature length documentary following Jimmi Mistri as he travels around Ibiza in search of the true ‘spirit’ of the island that lurks behind the boozed up brits abroad image that the island often finds itself associated with. The film features interviews with a ‘Who’s Who’ of dj’s including Pete Tong, David Guetta, Danny Rampling to name just a few. The film will be getting a theatrical release this year (stay tuned for more info on that). In [...]

    C.R.I.S.P.

Here is a little viral ad for Doritos. Interestingly enough, I ended up writing and directing this one, and due to time and money issues (well, the lack of each to be exact!) we ended up shooting it in my living room. Basically we cleared my living room, covered it in plastic dust sheets and dumped every old computer I had knocking around in the corner to make it look ‘Sci-Fi’. The idea was to create a sort of spoof [...]

New York (GH-1 test shoot winter 1080i50 played at 1080p25)

New York test shoot!! I found myself in possession of a Panasonic GH-1 this Christmas (thank you to the girlfriend!) and I have started shooting random bits and bobs on it. This is basically a few bits of video I took from a recent trip to New York. I quite liked it so I decided to post it up here! Basically, I was wanting to experiment with taking 50 FPS footage and slowing it down to 25 FPS by changing [...]
